What types of membership are there?

1 Associate membership

If you purchase the Skill for Life package, you join the Group as an Associate. As an Associate you are welcome to participate in all the Group's activities. The only difference between Associates and Full members is that only Full members may vote at the Annual General Meeting and serve on the Committee.

Purchasing Skill for Life means that you also become an Associate of the IAM. This entitles you to some of the benefits enjoyed by Members, such as receiving the magazine and getting discounts on some driving-related items, but not those that are dependent on being an advanced driver, such as special insurance deals.

On passing the test you automatically become a Full member of the Group and a Member of the IAM. Continued membership of the Group and the IAM is available by paying the annual subscriptions, currently £9 and £18 (£17.50 if paying by direct debit) respectively.

2 Other categories

If you are already a member of the IAM, you may join the Group as a Full Member.

If you are interested in supporting the Group, you may join the Group as a Friend. This category of membership is not open to those who have been IAM members in the past, or to those who joined as Associates but have not taken the test. It is necessary to join as an Associate member by purchasing the Skill for Life package in order to have observed drives.

Either of these categories of membership is available on payment of the annual Group subscription, currently £9.
